SAN FRANCISCO AREA

Day on SF Bay
BACK TO RV TRAVELS
HOME
A few days after our Thanksgiving with Peter's family, we were invited to accompany them for a day on San Francisco Bay.  The purpose of the trip was to scatter the ashes of the parents of this family, who had died a few years earlier.  The day was bright and clear, and was a particular pleasure for Sandra who had never been out on San Francisco Bay.
This is Ms. Katie, the hardy vessel that took us out on the bay.
Peter's brother Tom & his wife Sherry, and Peter's daughter Poppy & her family joined the group that had been together for Thanksgiving, so we were quite a crowd.
Masts on sailboats at South Beach Marina in front of San Francisco skyline.
This is the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge.  A short section of the upper deck fell through to the lower deck during the terrible 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, registering 7.1 on the Richter scale. An entire new SF Bay Bridge is now being built! Rod has some interesting tales from that time, as probably many people in the area do.
The Trans-America pyramid displays its unique architecture in the SF skyline.
The old Ferry Terminal Building (clock tower & Port of San Francisco) almost lost in the modern skylkine.
The infamous Alcatraz Island that used to be a prison and is no longer.

The famous Golden Gate Bridge.
When we were outside the Golden Gate, the captain stopped the boat, and we all gathered on the deck.  Flowers were tossed in the water.
Then Peter and John quietly scattered the ashes of their parents into the water.  Everyone was very still.
After a bit, we headed back under the Golden Gate again and Rod caught this lovely sailboat heading back from the sea.
Looking up into Tiburon.
This is Angel Island where many happy times have been spent by several of those aboard.
Before we returned to shore, the four siblings gathered - Anne, John, Tom, Peter.
We finished off the day with dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Alameda.
This shows the other side of the table.  It was a good finish to a memorable day.
