COAST SOUTH OF SF
Half Moon Bay
On a bright December day, we started driving north from Santa Cruz toward the Half Moon Bay area.
Hwy. 1 follows the coast and new vistas greeted us regularly.
This solitary musician was playing and singing to an audience of ocean waves.
Sandy shores like this were interspersed with rocky cliffs.
From this vista we could see a lighthouse in the distance.
Lighthouses have an aura of romance around them, and are such guiding beacons of light for boaters. This one is at Pigeon Point.
We both are fascinated by the motion of the sea pounding on rocky bluffs - the active motion of water against the passive boulders. Pigeon Point gave us the following views of this phenomena.
The late afternoon sun was going down behind the lighthouse as we left and Rod caught this special photo
A little further down the road we came to Half Moon Bay itself. When he lived in Alameda, Rod sometimes sailed down to this pretty bay on long weekends, and occasionally took an extra day to enjoy this anchorage and the little town.
It had been a day of pleasant vistas along the Pacific coast, paralleling the bay area south of San Francisco.
