COAST SOUTH OF SF
Monterey
On another glorious day in December 2005 we headed to the coast and the wonderful Monterey area.
The surfers are checking out the waves.
A pretty photo of waves and a gull. Wait a minute! - is that a shark fin or just some rocks out there? (No folks, we didn't doctor the photo.)
In the town of Monterey, this attractive fish sculptural fountain overlooks Monterey Bay.
Here's Sandra checking out some goods in this amazing "After the Quake" store.
A bust of author John Steinbeck.
And here's the the site of one of Steinbeck's books, Cannery Row, which was later made into a movie.
We had been looking forward to visiting the famous aquarium.
What a lovely aqua the water in this tank is.
This photo and the next show fish and coral in tropical waters.
Aren't the fish colorful?
Jellyfish that seem to glow from within.
A tiny seahorse clutching a line. The Creator really has a sense of humor.
The person who designed the aquarium has a humorous side also.
This scene with anemonies is from a temperate ocean, perhaps even Monterey Bay.
Another sample of temperate undersea life. The fish are not as colorful as in tropical places, but the anemonies, seastars and other sea creatures certainly make up for this.
The tentacles of an octopus.
Staring contest between man & fish, caught in reflection in the glass.
The aquarium also had a seabird display.
Here's a fast-swimming penguin.
The sign tells the story.
