For his 2005 birthday, Sandra told Rod she had a surprise for him.  They drove out to the Bellingham airport where she'd chartered a plane to take us up for a ride.  Originally we planned to go out over the water, but it was clear over Mt. Baker that day, so the pilot suggested going there, and we were glad to take him up on it.
Here's Rod with our young pilot and the plane that took us on our adventure.
When he heard we had a boat there, the pilot circled over Squalicum Harbor, and we could spot NiSa in the upper left corner of the marina.
This is the view flying over Bellingham.
Lake Whatcom, where Sandra once had a cabin, stretches into the distance.
The Nooksack River winds through this pastoral setting.
Then we came toward The Sisters, a series of mountains quite near Baker.
Finally here's Mt. Baker with its cold glaciers, even on a warm summer day.
And here's the magnificent Mt. Baker itself - our favorite photo. The peak is 10,778 ft. elevation and a lot of the mountain is covered in snow year round.
The pilot kept us informed via the earphones we three wore.
At this point we felt we could almost reach out & touch the snow.
Past Mt. Baker the Cascade Mountains range into the distance.
On our return flight we passed over Baker Lake.
Just before coming to Bellingham airport, we saw Highway I-5 below, stretching out toward Canada.
Here we are back on terra firma, happy to have had another adventure together.
Rod here.
Thank you very much Sandra for the most unique and enjoyable birthday present of my life. I am so fortunate to be having all these wonderful experiences with you!
